Troop Philosophy

Troop 653 emphasises Backpacking, Camping, Rapelling, and Personal Development Everything Troop 653 does is designed to help scouts grow. The Troop philosophy is to let the scouts run the troop. Adult leaders lend guidance and support and make sure the troop is within boundries and safe. Beyond that, the scouts are responsible for planning troop activities, calenders, and merit badge classes. Scouts take pride in their accomplishments and are encouraged to learn from their lessons, as well as the lessons of others. Enjoying success and learning to deal with failure are both part of growing into healthy adults.

“Scouting is a man’s job cut down to a boy’s size.”

–Lord Robert Baden-Powell

Troop 653 is proud to be chartered by Central Christian Church.

Central Christian Church

Central Christian Church

Central Christian Church has been home to Troop 653 since the Troop was founded in 1969. While Central Christian Church is home to many scouts in the Troop, membership in the church is not required for Troop participation. Many of the Scouts in Troop 653 have other church homes in neighboring churches. Some do not have a church home.

It is the goal of Troop 653 to attract as many scouts as possible for the benefit of helping boys grow into the type of men scouting promotes. Our Charter Organization Representative is Rick Wagner.
